Genesis 1:16
וַ יַּעַשׂ אֶלֹהִים אֶת שְׁנֵי הַ מְּאֹרֹת הַ גְּדֹלִים אֶת הַ מָּאֹור הַ גָּדֹל לְ מֶמְשֶׁלֶת הַ יֹּום וְ אֶת הַ מָּאֹור הַ קָּטֹן לְ מֶמְשֶׁלֶת הַ לַּיְלָה וְ אֵת הַ כֹּוכָבִים
And elohim is making אֶת-two Great Light-Places,31 אֶת-the Great Light-place for a ruling-place of the Hot-one, and אֶת-the Young Light-Place32 for a ruling-place33 of the Night-hers, and the Circular-ones.34
| 34 | Strong’s #3556, ha-Kokavim. The round ones, balls, globes. From an unused root kavav meaning to be round, circular. Cf. Gesenius, Fuerst. One would think that a different root would be used, related to fire, sparks, or light. |
