Genesis 4:23
וַ יֹּאמֶר לֶמֶךְ לְ נָשָׁיו עָדָה וְ צִלָּה שְׁמַעַן קֹולִי נְשֵׁי לֶמֶךְ הַאְזֵנָּה אִמְרָתִי כִּי אִישׁ הָרַגְתִּי לְ פִצְעִי וְ יֶלֶד לְ חַבֻּרָתִי
And Lamech is saying to his women—`Adornment and Shade, hear my voice, Women of Lamech, give ear to my saying: For a man I have slain for my wound, and he has begotten195 to my ally196;
| 195 | Strong’s #3205 , ילד yeled/yalad. This is either a masculine noun or the third person masculine verb וילד. With the consecutive waw the proper translation is that of the verb—and he begat. It is not typical, nor have I seen anywhere a consecutive-waw attached to a noun. The noun is Strong's #3206: something born; boy = yeled, girl = yaldah. |
