Genesis 34:30
וַ יֹּאמֶר יַעֲקֹב אֶל שִׁמְעֹון וְ אֶל לֵוִי עֲכַרְתֶּם אֹתִי לְ הַבְאִישֵׁנִי בְּ יֹשֵׁב הָ אָרֶץ בַּ כְּנַעֲנִי וּ בַ פְּרִזִּי וַ אֲנִי מְתֵי מִסְפָּר וְ נֶאֶסְפוּ עָלַי וְ הִכּוּנִי וְ נִשְׁמַדְתִּי אֲנִי וּ בֵיתִי
And Heel is saying toward News and toward Joined, `Ye have stirred-up אֶת-me, to make me stink in him-who-sits the Earth, in the Humbled, and in the Unwalled. And myself is extended-ones1080 of a number,1081 and they have been gathered upon me, and have smitten me, and I have been desolated, myself and my house.`
| 1081 | Hebrew וַאֲנִי֙ מְתֵ֣י מִסְפָּ֔ר. Ve-ani metay mispar. And myself extended-ones a number. The rarely used word math מַת (#4962) means men and is only found in the plural. Here translators change it to mean “few” to put a particular sense into Jacob’s words. |
