Even myself,54 I did not perceive himself. But in order that he might be made manifest to the God Straightened (Israel) because of this, I myself, have come, he who submerges within water.
Julia Smith Literal 1876 Translation:
And I knew him not: but that he might be manifested to Israel, for this I came immersing in water.

And I did not know Him; but that He be revealed to Israel, for this reason I came baptizing in water.
